Winterfell
Late summer at the gates. The torches are lit and the first flakes are falling. It gets colder from here.
Drag through the snow. Scroll to go in.
The Courtyard
Grey dusk inside the walls. Steam climbs from the grates where the hot springs run under the stone, and the first snow settles in the joints of the flags.
The castle that never freezes. The springs and the glass gardens.
The Great Hall
One hearth, one long table, and moonlight through the high windows. Bread and salt are given here before anything else is said.
Guest right is older than the castle.
The Godswood
Three acres of the old forest left standing inside the walls. At the centre a weirwood, white as bone, with a face that was carved before anything was written down. Its leaves are the only colour here.
Oaths are sworn under it. The heart tree, the old gods.
The Crypts
The Kings of Winter sit in the dark in rows, a stone wolf at every foot and an iron sword across every lap. The torches are the only light. They are never allowed to go out.
The Kings of Winter. The First Keep stands above.
There is a door at the end of the passage.
The Wall
Seven hundred feet of ice, built when the world was young, and still cold enough to frost the glass you are looking through.
Winter is coming.
You came in at the gates in late summer and you are standing at the Wall. The glass froze on the way. That was the idea.
How it was made
